Core Values

The Freedom School seeks to demonstrate the Core Values of New City Fellowship in an educational context.

New City Fellowship (NCF) adheres to the doctrines of the Westminster Confession.  NCF’s Core Values reflect a practical application of those doctrines, summarized by Micah 6:8: “He has showed you, O man, what is good. And what does the LORD require of you? To act justly and to love mercy and to walk humbly with your God.”

Justice and Mercy

1.Sonship

I am not ashamed of the gospel, because it is the power of God for the salvation of everyone who believes: first for the Jew, then for the Gentile. For in the gospel a righteousness from God is revealed, a righteousness that is by faith from first to last, just as it is written: “The righteous will live by faith.’” (Romans 1:16-17)

a. We are depraved sinners who have been saved by grace through faith (justification) in the sacrifice of Jesus Christ for our sins (atonement). We are also new creations; loved, forgiven, accepted, and adopted by God as his children, who are being restored by grace to reflect the image of God in every aspect of life (sanctification).

2.Kingdom Focus

“The Spirit of the Lord is on me, because he has anointed me to preach good news to the poor. He has sent me to proclaim freedom for the prisoners and recovery of sight for the blind, to release the oppressed, to proclaim the year of the Lord’s favor.”(Luke 4:18-19)

a. Jesus came as the King of kings and the Ruler of the Universe to save a people for himself, through his own sacrifice, and restore us under his loving rule and reign as his servants who live for him and seek first his kingdom.

3.Reconciliation

All this is from God, who reconciled us to himself through Christ and gave us the ministry of reconciliation: that God was reconciling the world to himself in Christ, not counting men’s sins against them. And he has committed to us the message of reconciliation.” (2Corinthians 5:18-19)

a. Reconciliation takes place between God and man and between man and man. This new found love that we have for all those who are different from us, and who used to be our enemies presents undeniable proof that God has come to bring salvation to the world.

b. We minister reconciliation as many interdependent parts who act as one unit, supporting one another.

c. There is but one God, who exists in the form of the Three Persons – the Father, the Son and the Holy Spirit. We believe God has created us in his image and therefore he intends to fulfill his purposes through us in a relationship of Team Ministry.

Humility

4. Spiritual Means

a. True worship involves the movement of the Holy Spirit in the hearts of God’s people that enables them to be transformed into the image of Christ by their worship of God. This transforming work of the Spirit is called “Freedom.”

b. God wants us to trust Him as the God who can and will fulfill his promises. What is really “on the line” in the fulfillment of God’s promises is not first of all, our faith, but the very character of God Himself.

c. Recognizing that trial is the way to maturity, and not a roadblock, means we don’t worry about looking for the quick fix. You must take the approach of being willing to stay in the trial until you see God accomplish his purpose. Perseverance means the presence of pain is not necessarily the signal it is a time for you to quit; it is often the time you are about to become the most teachable.
